Unfortunately, this EV crossover won't be sold everywhere at first.
Hyundai has released official pricing for its all-new 2019 Kona all-electric crossover. With a starting price of $36,450, buyers will be able to take advantage of a $7,500 tax credit, plus state incentives where they apply, which brings that base price down to $29,995 including delivery. Note that this pricing only takes into account the base Kona EV, but Hyundai says it will announce pricing for additional Kona Electric trims at a later date.
Looking at the Kona EV’s base price, a comparison shows it is $1,045 cheaper than the base 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV. So what standard features will 2019 Kona EV buyers get? Plenty.
These include Hyundai’s Smart Sense active safety suite, heated front seats, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, keyless entry and start, two USB ports, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Upgraded trims feature LED headlights, an improved adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, navigation, an eight-speaker Infinity audio system, parking sensors, and wireless phone charging. But the big question is, how far will the 2019 Kona EV go on a single charge?
It has been officially rated by the EPA with 258 miles of range. With a Level 2 charger, the vehicle can be fully charged in nine hours and 35 minutes.
If you were to use a Level 3 charger, the crossover can achieve an 80 percent charge in 75 minutes with a 50-kW charger, or 54 minutes with a 100-kW charger. Total output is rated at 201 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque and is equipped with a 64 kWh lithium-ion battery.
Production will take place in Korea and sales will get underway in early 2019. However, not all 50 states will sell the vehicle. Initial availability will be in California and shortly after in the ZEV-focused states in the western and northwestern regions.
